After months of rumors and speculation, Apple finally released a Windows version of their famous (and formerly Mac-only) Safari web browser. At the keynote yesterday, Steve Jobs boasted an elegant, mac-themed browser that performs twice as fast as Internet Explorer 7 and 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2. As you can see, the Windows version looks almost identical to the Mac version.

This is really great news for Safari users on the Mac because it allows web designers and developers who use Windows to test their sites on both platforms without the need for two machines. It also offers Windows users another alternative to Internet Explorer. Although I wouldn’t place it above Firefox or Opera just yet, I think Apple’s effort to port Safari to Windows looks very promising.
